River Valley Church Vancouver is the first international location of River Valley Church, a multi-site church based in Minnesota with 11 campuses. We are seeking an Associate Pastor to help advance this mission by providing pastoral leadership, developing leaders, and strengthening discipleship and community across the church.

Role Summary

The Associate Pastor provides pastoral leadership and oversight across Groups, weekend services, ministries, and church operations. Working closely with the Lead Pastor, staff team, and volunteers, this role helps people take next steps, grow in community, and mature as disciples of Jesus.

The primary focus of this role is to oversee the church’s Groups and Serve Teams, provide pastoral care, lead and develop the Young Adults ministry, and help strengthen overall church growth, connection, and discipleship.

Key Responsibilities

Groups & Discipleship

  • Lead and oversee Groups ministries (Small Groups, Core Groups, Alpha).

  • Recruit, train, and support Group leaders.

  • Create clear pathways into community and discipleship.

  • Monitor group health and leader development.

Weekend Services & Leadership

  • Participate in weekly service planning and Team Rally.

  • Serve as a pastoral presence before, during, and after services.

  • Assist with platform announcements and in-service moments.

  • Help plan baptisms, special services, and church-wide events.

  • Develop and support volunteers and ministry leaders.

Pastoral Care

  • Provide mentoring, prayer, counseling conversations, and crisis care.

  • Assist with hospital visits, funerals, and care needs as required.

  • Help build and support a Care Team.

Operations & Support

  • Partner with staff on logistics, events, and facility coordination.

  • Support church systems and onsite execution as needed.

Qualifications

Spiritual & Ministry

  • A growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Alignment with the mission, vision, and values of River Valley Church.

  • Pastoral or ministry leadership experience in a church context.

Professional

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Experience leading volunteers and developing leaders.

  • Comfortable leading from stage (announcements; teaching an asset).

  • Familiarity with Planning Center Online, Google Workspace, ProPresenter, or similar tools.

Bonus (Not Required): Experience with Groups, Young Adults, Care Ministry, or Worship/Production environments.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $55,000–$65,000 CAD per year, depending on experience

  • Vacation: 2-3 weeks paid vacation

  • Benefits: Extended health and dental

  • Additional: Ongoing ministry training and leadership development

Work Schedule

Full-time (37.5 hours per week), including weekends and some evenings, depending on ministry and pastoral care needs. The office is open Mon-Thu.
